Recently, I have started to love a very simply stated album layout where the images speak for themselves. It feels like a breath of fresh air. In the visual arts world, white space is referred to as negative space and it's not a bad thing! White space is a balance between positive and negative, and is key to aesthetic composition. It can give a page a classic, elegant, or rich appearance. Upscale brands often use ad layouts with little text and a lot of white space (try google images, Tiffany Print Ads).
I have a new sample album in house where the layout is simple, but to me it is just perfection. I totally love this layout and book. Click the play button below to check out the new book!
Flannery and Barry were married on June 27, 2009 at the Westover School, celebration followed at Flannery's parent's home. They chose the Original Wedding Album. Check out their album layout below, and enjoy!
Christina and Dave have selected The Original Wedding Album for their wedding book, with the brushed metal cover. Here is their wedding album layout. Enjoy!
Thinking back on the day of the wedding, Jeff and I had so much fun capturing memories for Carolyn and Brad, can we do a do-over for fun?? Almost a year after the wedding, I decided to give Carolyn's cookie recipe a try. Unfortunately, I was unsuccessful making the cookies. I'm honestly am a pretty good baker, but when it comes to cookies, not so much a great baker.
Amy and Ian were married in June of 2008 at the Race Brook Country Club in Orange, Connecticut. It was a perfect, sun shining summer day, exactly what you think of for a summer wedding.
One of the moments that stick out in my mind when I think of this wedding was immediately following the ceremony, Amy and I had planned on taking a group picture of everyone at the wedding. It took a bit of direction and several minutes to gather everyone, but we eventually had all guests in place. This can be a tricky picture to coordinate, but is totally worth it! I think it's awesome to have an image of everyone at your wedding, and include it in the album.
Amy and Ian selected the 13" Bookbound Art Album, cover selection is Iron Outback Leather, with double white mats. View the slideshow below to check out their album layout. Enjoy!
Cara and Dan were married this past October at Saint Elizabeth in Rocky Hill and the celebration was held at Glastonbury Hills Country Club. Looking back on the day, I had such an amazing time photographing their wedding. Everyone and everything was wonderful and beautiful, just as anyone would dream up a wedding to be. One of my favorite details from the day were the flowers, by Just for You Floral Design Studio. I absolutely loved the gold ribbons on the bridesmaids' bouquets--they were length of their gowns. The fall colors against the black gowns really popped, then add the gold ribbon--LOVE IT!
Cara, Dan, and I just wrapped up the album layout, see slideshow below. I can't wait for them to receive their album, it's a totally different experience holding the actual book of images in your hand. Enjoy!
My favorite part of their wedding day was taking pictures of Erin and Bob. They are such an amazing couple, and a dream to work with. We walked from the church to the inn (a three minute walk that took twenty-ish minutes), and stopped at every cute spot.
The funniest part of the wedding day (for me and probably Jeff) was when Erin's grandfather grabbed my arms and took me out on the dance floor. Jeff was laughing at me the whole time, and there were guests taking pictures with their cameras and cell phones. I guess it is all part of the job, however I do prefer to be behind the camera instead of in front of one.
I just finished retouching the album layout, and I have to admit...I just love it! Love the wedding, love the couple, love the dress, love the album--love it, love it, love it!!! I can remember the day like it was yesterday, and I would do it all over again if I could, and I'm just the photographer. Reliving the day through the album is the next best thing, and I am so happy that I get to capture memories for years to come. I love my job.
Below is a slideshow of Erin and Bob's wedding album layout. Enjoy!
